It’s not too late to think about the Iowa League of Cities 2016 Annual Conference and Exhibit.
Share your knowledge and expertise with local government decision-makers! The Iowa League of Cities is seeking ideas/proposals for educational workshops on topics related to local government for our 2016 Annual Conference and Exhibit that will take place September 14-16, 2016 in Des Moines, Iowa.
Acceptance of your proposal is not a guarantee that you will be selected to speak at the 2016 Annual Conference & Exhibit. All materials are subject to review by League staff. Workshop proposals will be evaluated based on how the topic addresses the needs of Iowa elected and appointed city officials. Proposals are due Monday, February 1, 2016.

In the past year (2015) they have reformatted monthly lunch meetings (3rd Wednesday of each month) to focus more on topics important to the overall metro area. Luncheons have been held with the Des Moines Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO), Des Moines Area Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Greater Des Moines Partnership’s Capital Crossroads Initiative. In 2016 the region will continue the metro discussions with meetings on public transit, the Des Moines Airport and other important topics.
It is time to start planning to attend IMMI.
The 28th Iowa Municipal Management Institute (IMMI) is scheduled for March 16-18, 2016, at the Sheraton Hotel in downtown Iowa City. Jeff and his team look forward to providing city/county managers, administrators and other key local government staff from Iowa with a top notch professional development program as well as convivial networking opportunities.
This year our conference coincides with St. Patrick’s Day on Thursday March 17. In recognition and celebration of this event, we are dispensing with our typical Thursday evening banquet and instead we will have a special evening celebration at the 126 Restaurant in downtown Iowa City sponsored by FOX Engineering. The annual awards ceremony will be held during the Thursday luncheon.
Conference Program –The theme of the 2016 IMMI is “Tools for Iowa Local Government Managers”. The preliminary Conference Program is attached.
IMMI has been approved for Iowa Municipal Professional Flexible Credits (13 credits) by IMFOA. Please be sure to request this in advance of the conference. IMMI has also applied for Continuing Legal Education (CLE – 2.0 credits).
Registration – IMMI conference registration will again be handled directly by the University Conference Center. Attendees should register electronically at http://www.continuetolearn.uiowa.edu/UIConferences/meetings.aspx?cnfcode=16-076-01

Please note that registering for the conference does not reserve you a room at the Sheraton. This has to be done separately.
Registration Fee – The conference registration fee for the program and meals is $420. Student registration is $150.
Registration Deadline – The deadline for conference registration to take advantage of the $420 fee is Friday, February 26. After February 26, the conference fee is $450.
Hotel Reservations – The conference hotel and all conference programs will be the Sheraton Hotel, 210 South Dubuque Street, in downtown Iowa City. Attendees will need to make their hotel reservations directly with the Sheraton. The Institute will not be involved in making hotel reservations. Room rates are $91 per night plus tax.

Please let them know you are attending IMMI (a/k/a the City Managers’ Conference).
IMPORTANT: Room reservations must be made by Friday, March 4. We have a block of rooms on reserve but we lose our “hold” and special rate after March 4.
If you would like to share a room with another attendee as in previous years, you need to coordinate with your roommate and arrange for one of you to make the reservation. If you are looking for a roommate, Jeff recommends posting a notice on the “Grapevine” to that effect and you can team up with somebody else who is looking for a roommate.
Parking: Off-street parking is available in a ramp adjacent to the hotel. Thanks to the City of Iowa City, parking at this ramp will be available at no cost for attendees (whether staying at the hotel or commuting to the conference). The conference is taking place during the University’s spring break, so we do not anticipate any problem with parking availability.
