2015 Joe Lukehart Award – Kandi Reindl
Excepted from award presentation
The Joe Lukehart Professional Service Award was created to recognize outstanding contributions to the development and support of the city management profession in Iowa. This award is named in honor of Joe Lukehart, who served as President of the Iowa City Management Association in 1981-1982. Joe served as City Manager in Webster City from 1974 to 1982 and played an instrumental role in enhancing the professional development efforts of Iowa’s city managers and assistants.
The award is presented to individuals who have promoted or enhanced the city/county management profession in Iowa, and who have made outstanding contributions to the Iowa City/County Management Association. Additionally, the award is given to individuals responsible for promoting the professional development of Iowa’s City/County Management Association, and is presented during the Iowa Municipal Management Institute. The Joe Lukehart Professional Service award is not presented on an annual basis since it is designed to recognize exceptional contributions to the development of the city/county management profession and the state association.
This year we recognize an individual who has been serving in local government administration for 24 years. As an active and engaged member of the Iowa City/County Management Association, she has demonstrated her commitment and dedication to the organization through her unfailing desire to encourage newer members of the profession to become members. That encouragement is best demonstrated by the number of new members she has recruited from within her own city organization.
She has served as president of the Iowa City/County Management Association, as a member of the ICMA Conference Planning Committee, and as a mentor for many of the growing number of women in the profession. She is a strong, kind, and positive leader within the organization. She has done much to promote the assistant’s role in city management. The 2015 Lukehart recipient has reinforced the importance of this position within the Iowa City/County Management Association as well as within her own community.
This year’s recipient began her career in local government serving the Planning Department and worked her way up to the City Manager’s Office. As Assistant to the City Manager, she has built the special events program in her community into a full-time role which now oversees more than 200 street events annually, including the Hy-Vee Triathlon and RAGBRAI. She serves as the liaison to the Police, Clerk, and Legal Departments, staffs the City Council’s Legislative Subcommittee as well as the Metropolitan Advisory Council. She is an active member of the Metropolitan Managers group. Her positive, can-do attitude and welcoming smile embody the commitment she has to her work and to the city management profession.
Please join me in recognizing and congratulating our 2015 Joe Lukehart Award winner – Kandi Reindl.
